Prof. Jacob Olugbenga Awobusuyi
Professor Awobusuyi is a Professor of Medicine (Nephrology) at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja, Lagos. He holds a Masters degree with distinction in renal transplantation sciences and the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College. In the course of his academic career, he has served in many positions where human development and capacity building are fundamental duties. He has served as the Head of the Department of Medicine, Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, and a member of the Court of Governors of the Lagos State University College of Medicine.
Professionally, he has been actively involved in the development of his specialty for the past thirty years. He founded the Lagos Nephrology Forum,which has brought together all Nephrologists and Senior Registrars in Lagos into a forum where academic interactions and professional networking have continued to benefit members. Furthermore, he was instrumental in the establishment of twelve (12) haemodialysis units by the MTN-Foundation in the six geopolitical zones of the Federation.He paved the way for regular haemodialysis for HIV-positive patients in Nigeria in 2004 by routinely accepting them for dialysis when other Centers turned them away.
He is the President of the Nigerian Association of Nephrology and the Transplant Association of Nigeria. In addition, he serves on the Haemodialysis committee of the African Association of Nephrology and the International Society of Nephrology's African Regional Board.
